Background
The majority of Amercoat coatings products are now "environmentally designed" with low-solvent, solvent-free and waterborne technologies that reduce the possibility of pollution and enhance workers' safety.
Amercoat coatings, since the 1950’s have been
industry-leading coatings technologies. These include:
· Dimetcote (1950), the
first heavy-duty water based inorganic zinc silicate primer for steel;
· Amerlock (1981), the
first full colour range high-solids, low-solvent,
surface-tolerant (i.e., can be applied over intact rust and old paint) epoxy
coating for steel and concrete;
· Amershield (1986), the
first high-build, low-solvent polyurethane which offers far more resistance to
impact and abrasion than conventional polyurethane's, and
· PSX 700 (1993), the first epoxy polysiloxane
coating, a new technology that significantly enhances resistance to corrosion,
heat, weathering and a wide range of chemicals.
The Amercoat Corporation was established in California in
the 1950's and was eventually renamed Ameron Protective Coatings. In 1996, Ameron
purchased the Devoe marine coatings business of
Imperial Chemical Industries PLC. The acquisition made Ameron
the largest supplier of high-performance marine and offshore coatings in
