Amercoat Canada, headquartered in Oakville Ontario, was formerly the licensed Canadian manufacturer/distributor of Amercoat Protective and Marine Coatings from December 1, 1993 until June 30th, 2013. Amercoat Canada assumed the business activities of Ameron Canada Inc., an American owned company which distributed Ameron Protective & Marine Coatings in Canada since 1984. Manufacturing of these high performance coatings in Canada for both Ameron and Amercoat was through toll manufacturing agreements with Allcolour Paint Limited in Oakville over the 20 year period.
The original Amercoat Corporation was established in California in the 1950’s based on the invention of inorganic zinc and vinyl coatings. It was later renamed Ameron Protective Coatings. In 1996, Ameron purchased the Devoe marine coatings business of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC. Early in 1997, Ameron also acquired the worldwide Valspar maintenance coatings business. These acquisitions made Ameron a leading supplier of high-performance marine and offshore coatings in North America and also greatly expanded the company’s sales and service network and global presence in these markets. PPG acquired the Ameron Protective and Marine Coating activities in 2006 and established a new business unit, PPG Protective and Marine Coatings. In 2007 PPG acquired Sigma Coatings which was also incorporated into the PPG PMC group worldwide. All of these product lines were available in Canada through Amercoat Canada until 2013.
Amercoat Canada became the Canadian distributor for PolySpec Chemical Resistant Surfacers, Linings and Floor Coatings in 2000. Distribution of Nukote Polymers and Ceramic Coatings commenced in 2007, followed by the incorporation of Nukote Coating Systems Canada Inc. in late 2013 as a separate entity.
